Curating A Plant-Based Diet For Your Toddler

Health truly is wealth, and the earlier we start investing the better. If you have been wondering about guiding your little one to a plant-based or vegan diet from an early age, fret not – here are all the answers you wanted to your initial questions.

When it comes to plant-based vegan diets, many would fear going cold turkey on animal-based products. However, it is good to note toddlers don’t have to immediately do that. In fact, plant-based diets are known for reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases, healthy weight management, strong immunity, and better brain health! Here are three ways your kid can ease their way into healthy vegan eating:

  1. Pay attention to proteins: Some parents might be wary of their kids not eating enough protein, but plant-based sources are more than nutritious to tick off your growing kids’ protein needs. Make sure to include beans, nuts, quinoa, cauliflower, and soy and its products to increase their daily nutritional value.
  2. Allow them to experiment for themselves: Instead of sticking to a rigid food plan, allow your little one’s space to get creative and choose their choice of food for themselves. If they’re not fond of a certain green item, let them say no and pick alternatives of their choice. It is especially important to be mindful with picky eaters to help them build a healthy relationship with their diet in the long run.
  3. Note the must-haves: Some of the must-include food items would include kale, broccoli, soy milk, hummus, potatoes, lentils, seeds, chickpeas, tofu, and dried fruits. These make up the foundation of your kid’s plant-based lifestyle, so make sure they’re eating this plenty.

Canada’s First Vegan Night Market Is Here!

Started in 2018, Vancouver’s celebrated vegan night market is back on the road! It is currently being held at The Waldorf Hotel, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. every second Thursday until the last one, on September 8th.

Following a two-year hiatus through the pandemic, Vancouver is once again welcoming all vegan (and food!) enthusiasts to Canada’s first-ever vegan night market.

Instead of a fee on admission, you are required to make a minimum two-dollar donation or donate canned goods, clothing, or pet food at the entrance. All donations made will go to a different non-profit organization after each event. Food for the soul? Yes, please.
