Dairy Giant ‘Lactalis Canada’ To Go Permanently Plant-Based

French dairy giant Lactalis has announced that it will be shutting down all dairy products in its Canadian facility starting from September 20th. This huge shift comes as a response to consumers’ demands for saying no to animal cruelty and choosing plant-based as a lifestyle.

While the dairy market has been witnessing a subsequent decline in demand and production – thanks to the increased awareness of what goes on behind the scenes in these facilities – Canada is making waves as one of the most prominent countries at the forefront of saying no to animal cruelty.

Nestled in the town of Sudbury in Canada, Lactalis believes the “long-term volume decline” and “increased costs in the fluid milk market in Ontario” had led them to this decision of bringing a halt to manufacturing. The rising surge of healthier milk alternatives in the region has also pushed this decision ahead.

However, this is just another feather in the brand’s conscious hat – they are already well-known for their Sensational Soy and Lactantia Margarine which are two of the leading plant-based and vegan products in the region today.

Clean and Green: Rise of The Vegan Beauty Industry

Projected to reach $21.4 billion by 2027, the vegan beauty market has been considered a niche. Today, our vanity shelves are stocked with cruelty-free labels – thanks to the rising awareness and demand for brand values. Here is how and why the beauty industry is slowly turning to non-animal-based products.

While the clean beauty notion has been around for years, it was truly during the pandemic that consumers turned inwards and began to seek brands that share the same values as them. In a world battling climate change, excessive pollution, and a highly sedentary lifestyle, consumers today hold themselves highly accountable for staying aware of what goes into their favourite products, and eventually on their skin.

WHAT MAKES BEAUTY “VEGAN”?

Much like the vegan diet suggests, vegan beauty is that containing no products derived from animals. The terms cruelty-free and vegan often go hand-in-hand, but it is to note they can’t be interchangeable. Where vegan signifies no animal products have been used in production, cruelty-free denotes the same product has not been tested on any animals.

(Fun fact: the first vegan beauty product can be traced back to 1990 when luxe beauty brand Estee Lauder decided to omit animal products in its formulations.)

Honey, gelatin, glycerin, and retinol are some common ingredients omitted from the vegan beauty shelf. Plant-based alternatives are taking over animal byproducts, and where they don’t, research is doing a commendable job of producing these eco-friendly counterparts.

WHY IS VEGAN BEAUTY NEEDED?

  1. It is subtle for all skin types. Vegan products are well known for being less aggravating on the skin with more efficiency.
  2. It is eco-friendly. By reducing the strain on its environment, the vegan beauty industry directly helps conserve the crippling environment with less greenhouse gas emissions.
  3. Supports animal welfare. Lest we say more?

You can take a walk through any major beauty section and be delighted to find not only vegan but plant-based and traditional beauty ingredients in their collections. Where science has its own place in the industry, today the brand value lies in non-animal-based and byproduct formulations. This rising concern for the conservation of the environment is no longer gone unseen.

Beauty giants such as Target, Sephora, and Ulta Beauty are all compliant with this new age of beauty and makeup. Further brands like The Ordinary, Kylie Cosmetics, Milk Makeup, E.L.F Cosmetics, Pai Skincare, Cake Beauty, and many many more are now cult-chosen worldwide for their 100% vegan selections!

A completely conscious beauty dream may still be that – a dream – but the dots are being connected and will soon be a turnover for both brands and consumers. A revolution awaits.

Guide To Building Muscle On A Plant-Based Diet

Building muscle on a vegan diet can be daunting at first. “But we can’t eat meat!” “What about our protein intake?” “Plant-based foods don’t help gain muscle.” Wrong, wrong, wrong. Here is how (and why) bodybuilders can go vegan to reach their goals.

WHAT CONSTITUTES A VEGAN DIET FOR BODYBUILDING?

When it comes to bodybuilding, nutrition is one of the most important elements one needs to be mindful of. It takes careful planning to program an adequate meal plan that will not only help your body and muscles grow but also achieve all the essential nutrients it requires.

As a vegan, the latter could be tough. With animal-based products struck clean off of your list, it is often considered risky to go on this diet without the right amount of protein entering your body. But that is no longer a given and you can check out our list of plant-based protein-rich foods to assure that: https://yogahealthfoundation.com/10-best-vegan-protein-sources/.

Here is how one can transition to a proper plant-based vegan diet that will aid their bodybuilding goals:

Guide To Building Muscle On A Plant-Based Diet

  1. STOCK UP ON STAPLES: The vegan diet consists of many staples that are necessary to lay the foundation for a good meal plan. Including foods highly rich in proteins, make sure to consume plenty of those rich in fibers, antioxidants, and other important minerals which form the basis of your muscle gain. Legumes, beans, green leafy vegetables, and other such must-haves can be found here: https://yogahealthfoundation.com/7-calcium-rich-foods-that-arent-dairy/.
  2. TRACK YOUR INTAKE: Now that you have laid down the basis of your vegan meals, get into the habit of tracking your nutrient intake. It is important to understand what your body might be lacking in the long run, so make sure to eat mindfully and consume the right amount of nutrients on daily basis. Monitoring will help you assess if this diet is well-suited for your body as a lifestyle.
  3. SAY YES TO SUPPLEMENTS: As a vegan, meeting certain nutrient requirements will be dependent on external supplements. Creatine, known as the most essential (and one of the healthiest!) supplements for bodybuilders, shall easily be part of your diet. Caffeine for a pre-workout energy boost, beta-alanine for improving exercise performance, and soy protein for tapping your protein quota are other essentials that shall aid your vegan journey.
  4. WORK OUT: Fitness is all about two aspects – food and exercise. While you have the food section organized, working out as a vegan bodybuilder takes another route. While sadly there are no vegan-specific workouts, it is a green light for you to personalize your regimes as per your comfort. Adjust your training frequencies to four times a week, use heavy or light weights, take rests of two minutes between workouts, and switch between different regimes. But remember, a plant-based diet will never hold you back from reaching your goals.
  5. KEEP LEARNING: As beneficial as veganism can be for bodybuilding, there is more room for concrete discussion on the subject. For optimal results, one should keep acquiring new knowledge on their vegan meal plans and through consistent efforts, incorporate more or less of the diet into their lifestyle as required. Remember: there is no one suit that fits all.

BENEFITS OF GOING VEGAN AS A BODYBUILDER

  1. Promotes Better Gut Health: Studies have shown that people who eat vegan carry a better amount of healthy bacteria in their gut – thus promoting an overall healthier digestive health. Good gut health has also been associated with better mental health and the risk of fewer brain-related disorders.
  2. Allows Easy Weight Management: The exclusion of animal-based products makes the vegan diet low in fat and a calorie which makes it easier for bodybuilders to maintain their required body weight in the long haul.
  3. Reduces Risk of Heart Diseases: Veganism has long been associated with protecting the heart and reducing the risk of heart-related issues. For a bodybuilder who is constantly pushing their limits and is at high risk of strokes and heart failure, going vegan can be great reassurance for healthy heart health.

7 Calcium-Rich Foods That Aren’t Dairy

When we think about calcium, dairy and dairy products immediately cover our minds. As rich as they are in said nutrient, they aren’t the only good sources available out there. Take a look!

We all know calcium helps our bodies build and maintain strong bones. Beyond that, calcium is an essential nutrient for proper muscle function, hormonal secretion, and nerve transmission.

As a vegan, you might worry about your calcium intake. But fret no, you can happily take your hands off dairy and its products and place them on organic, plant-based counterparts. Indeed, there are many organic items brimming with calcium that vegans can easily experiment with.

You can curate a calcium-rich vegan diet by including the following foods in your daily intake:

SOY

Tofu, edamame, and tempeh – are the usuals of any vegan diet. Besides being rich in protein, fiber, and pretty much every mineral, they contain chock-full of calcium that can make up about 80% of your daily intake.

BROCCOLI

Raw or cooked, take your pick. In fact, 2 cups of broccoli contain the same amount of calcium as a single glass of milk, and that too with a better absorption rate – making it much easier for your body to gain the calcium it needs.

SPINACH

Any leafy green vegetable is ideal for including in your vegan diet, but spinach is a must-include for its high calcium value. At the same time, its high amount of oxalate can defy its calcium absorption. Oxalate binds calcium which makes it hard to break down for the body, so you should eat it boiled to reap all its benefits.

SEEDS

Healthy and flavorful, chia and sesame seeds are two of the foremost sources of calcium that vegans should include in their diet. Known as a superfood, chia packs a lot of punch in its little content and sesame adds taste where it might be lacking.

FIGS AND ORANGES

Not many fruits are as rich in calcium as these too. If you’re craving something sweet, figs are perfect to satiate it while you fill your daily calcium intake. Oranges, also amazing sources of Vitamin C, contain a significant amount of calcium that makes it ideal to eat daily.

WHITE BEANS

Beans are generally a common sight in the vegan diet, but white beans stand out for being notably high in calcium. While you can savor these in salads and wraps alike, these are equally a treat to eat boiled with the right pinch of salt, lemon, and some veggies.

ALMONDS

It’s no news that nuts are a great source of minerals, but almonds specifically store great amounts of calcium in them. Whether you’re a fan of almond butter, spreads, or raw, you can joyfully include this nut in your vegan diet as a healthy binge snack. Just a handful would be perfect.

Commit to Compassion

I am challenging the ‘status quo’ of typical and generic businesses and the way they operate by building a ‘People before Profits’ business model. My teachings revolve around creating brands that last forever.”
By Shane Jeremy James

As Founder and CEO of Actions Of Compassion. I had a vision of the exact type of company I wanted to build. I envisioned a global company that was able to enrich the lives of its employees, customers, partners, the less fortunate and whomever it came in contact with. This is when I decided to turn the Actions Of Compassion movement into a brand.

My journey started very early in life. As a youth, I would ask for a subscription to ‘Entrepreneur Magazine’ for my birthday and my deep level of passion for business has continued to this day.

As the years progressed, I continued to sharpen my ability and mindset and gained an advanced mindset over the years by reading over 700 books plus achieving certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming. As part of my continued business growth, I was then provided an opportunity to travel and work with original Shark Tank TV Show and inventor of the infomercial, Kevin Harrington. I played an integral part in helping build Kevin’s personal brand, consulted in the business and gained shares in some of their companies.

Eager to create real world change, I reached out to my Twitter followers declaring this intention to build a compassion movement by simply asking if anyone wanted to help. The immediate support was amazing with the majority of the replies saying: “Let’s do it!”. I knew that focusing on helping others to make a better world would produce results, but I had no idea how large of a movement he was creating.

By combining my knowledge of over 700 books, certifications in Neuro-Linguistic Programing, execution of compassionate acts and business development and operations the AOC brand is able to focus on a variety of different paths. We focus on making people better so that they will make the world better.

CREATING GOOD WITH ACTIONS OF COMPASSION

At Actions of Compassion, our mission is to influence compassionate acts and change the way businesses are built around the globe. We champion a ‘People before Profits’ culture into a business model. The entire compassion brand is built around systems and processes in order to achieve operational excellence. Our purpose is to create and support people and companies that only do good in the world.

Compassion for me comes from not only acts of kindness towards other people, but also our environment. We can do good by being good, and I realize how important it is to be just as kind to our nature. Yoga & Health Expo is a dedicated platform that talks about veganism, plant-based and organic lifestyle that continues to showcase this need to help the environment and I’m ecstatic to be able to extend my acts of compassion for the world with them.

From encouraging kind actions at The Compassion Kingdom, helping you gain complete control of your mind and future with the Live Your T-shirt (LYT) challenge to helping you get into the elite 3% of businesses that succeed with ‘Humanize Your Business Program’, Acts of Compassion aims to redefine being compassionate.
